One evening in the early fall while bored at night at the cottage, I decided to play around taking pictures of the candles on the table.

The first (of what is sure to be many) pictures of my dog Moose.

Mars is on the right side (the orange “star”), with the Pleiades on the left.  The camera “piggy backing” on the back of a Meade 2080 8″ telescope on an equatorial mount so that the camera frame followed the stars, rather then staying stationary.

Taken earlier this afternoon in BCE Place in downtown Toronto, I thought the reflections off the stone was pretty nice. My brother Andrew can be seen on the left side reading a plaque.

Another shot with the Pleiades seen on the right side. The dark area on the far right of the image is the tube of the telescope that the camera was piggy backing on so that I could follow the stars rotation using its equatorial mount, and in order to get a wide shot that I wanted, the tube needed to be in the shot.

The Milky Way overhead at the cottage in the early fall. Similar to the other recent astrophotography posts I’ve done, the camera was piggy backing on a telescope on an equatorial mount and using a sidereal drive so that the picture frame follows the stars and no star trails are formed.

I took this at the 2nd game of the season this year. I love the moment captured in the picture, but I’m very disappointed with the image quality. I normally shoot in the RAW file format, so that I can do exposure and white balance touch ups later. However, at the very start of this game, my 1GB card that I used was having problems, so I had to shoot with my 512MB card, which meant in order to take more pictures, I couldn’t shoot in the RAW format, I regret that decision as the pictures came out with an ugly red tint. I did my best to fix the red tint, but I’m still not very pleased, since it made the other colours very dull.
