Smoke Experiments (9 Image Post)
October 27th, 2006Sorry about the huge post, but rather then posting nothing but smoke pictures for the next few weeks, I decided to post a bunch at once instead. I played around experimenting with smoke, after 155 shots it was hard to choose some to post, and there are lots more I wanted to post, but I think 9 is enough for one night.
Exif:Canon 20D | Tamron 90mm 2.8 1:1 Macro | M | f/6.3 | 1/125 sec | ISO-100 | Canon 430ex + Lightsphere II (Cloudy) + Cardboard box (to act as a barn-door | Canon ST-E2 Wireless flash transmitter
Wow! these are really cool.
My favorate is number five. It is very sexual
and violent. Number one is nice too!
Very interesting shots. #9 is my new desktop background
Great shots,
Do you think you could offer some brief explanations of how you managed to get them done?
Sure Max,
I set-up in my garage (which unfortunately was pretty cramped, so a larger space would have been more ideal), I set black bristol board up against the wall (proper black seamless paper would work best). I was using the wireless transmitter/flash, and put the flash inside a small cardboard box, and used the flaps of the box to direct the light through the smoke. The smoke was from incense, and I simply adjusted the focus onto the smoke, then turned off all the lights and fired away. Moving around the incense a bit lets you create interesting flows in the smoke as well.
